The year of 2010 is quickly winding down to a close, and with so many break-ups, make-ups, and shake-ups over the past twelve months, it is hard to choose the best events of the year. However, at Verragio we like to focus on the positive, so in honor of a Happy New Year to come, here is a look at the best weddings of the past year, with the hopes that there are plenty more to come. After all, who doesn’t love a wedding?
An Exotic Affair: Katy Perry and Russell Brand Get Married
Elephants and tigers and noise pollutions oh my! While rumors abound about the wild and wacky wedding of Katy Perry and Russell Brand, the truth is actually much tamer. The famous couple did get married in Jaipur, India on October 23, and they did treat their friends and family to local music, performances, and safaris.
However, there was not a legal investigation regarding noise disruption, and there were no elephants or tigers gifted to one another. Perhaps Brand put it best when he was interviewed on ITV show shortly after the nuptials.
“I’m a vegetarian, you don’t give people tigers, it’s stupid, it’s dangerous, and the tigers don’t like it,” Russell said.
The couple has happily settled into married life in both New York City and London, and currently sports matching micro pave’ set diamond wedding bands.
A Private Affair: Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green Tie the Knot
This engagement began and ended in the same place when bride-to-be beauty, Megan Fox reportedly dropped her engagement ring in the sand after fiancé Brian Austin Green proposed on the beach. The ring unfortunately was never found, but a replacement was soon obtained and the two wed in what they claim was a ‘spur of the moment’ ceremony on June 24th. Not too spur of the moment though, since the bride wore an Armani Prive gown, complete with a 16 foot train. The two wed in a very private ceremony on the beach at the Four Seasons Resort in Hawaii, with Austin’s 8 year old son, Kassius, as the only attendant.
The pair, who has been together since 2006, is reportedly happier than ever, Fox told People magazine shortly after the two exchanged rings.
“I married my best friend. I’m so lucky to get to be with him every day, and he’s my protector. I feel so safe and happy and completed,” she said.
A Star Studded Affair: Emily Blunt and John Krasinski Exchange Wedding Rings
For a couple that likes to keep a low profile Emily Blunt and John Krasinski really know how to celebrate in style. In an effort to escape the public prying eye, the two escaped to George Clooney’s Lake Como Italian Villa where their movie star friend threw them a cruise with some very familiar faces.
Blunt has been known to say that she never wanted a ‘Hollywood wedding,’ but the couple can’t help that they have friends like Matt Damon, Meryl Streep, and George Clooney, who were all in attendance for the cruise on the lake that was made famous in the Movie ‘Ocean’s 12.’
The bride reportedly wore a Marchesa bridal gown with a sweetheart neckline, but don’t look for pictures, as the couple likes to, as Blunt once said, “not be a Chatty Cathy” about such things.
A Presidential Affair: Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky Exchange Vows
Undoubtedly, all eyes are on the ongoing parade of news surrounding the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, but being a Democracy here in America, it has been said that the wedding of Chelsea Clinton and her longtime boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky is as close to a royal affair as this country is likely to see.
Clinton grew up before the eyes of America during her father’s reign which, whether you lean left or right, will go down in history as one of the most memorable two presidential terms in office. And Bill and Hillary Clinton made sure their daughter’s wedding was just as memorable.
The 400 guests, from all around the world, convened in Rhinebeck, New York where the couple exchanged vows at the Astor Courts Estate. The bride wore a Vera Wang bridal gown for the dual faith ceremony, which was held under blue skies in perfect weather.
“We could not have asked for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of their life together, and we are so happy to welcome Marc into our family,” The Clintons later said in a statement they released along with five photos to sate the public’s curiosity.
Reportedly, the cost for the affair didn’t come cheap, with a price tag that is said to have been close to $2 million; however it pales in comparison to the U.K.’s royal wedding, which is expected to cost in the billions.
