The idea of a ‘Push Gift’ has been an increasingly popular tradition for mothers celebrating the birth of a new son or daughter, but celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe’s gift in particular was an incredibly lovely way to say thank you.
On May 23rd, Zoe gave birth to Skylar Morrison Berman, the first son for her and longtime husband Rodger Berman.
The decision to step back and focus on motherhood was a well-documented process for the busy stylist to the stars and her husband of fifteen years, on the past season of her reality show: “The Rachel Zoe Project.”
And to honor the arrival of their son, Berman gifted Zoe with an almost 10 carat cushion cut diamond ring, surrounded by a halo of smaller round diamonds and set onto a diamond adorned spilt shank.
The diamond, according to people, was a way to say thank you to Zoe, who was working as hard as ever while carrying their first child.
And although ‘Push Gift’ is a relatively new term, the idea is not altogether new. In fact, one of the most famous blue diamond rings ever created was a push gift, once upon a time; the Bulgari Blue.
The 10.95 carat Triangular cut blue diamond, paired with a 9.87 carat triangular white diamond, yellow gold ring was recently sold at auction for over $15 million dollars, but was originally purchased by a private collector in the 1970’s as a gift for his wife to celebrate the birth of their son.
While at the opening of the IWC‘s A Night in Portofino last week, Zoe shared that she couldn’t be happier about her new diamond ring, but that nothing can compare, she told PEOPLE, to her son’s smile, not even a ten-carat diamond.
“I put a smile on his face,” Zoe said. “That’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever done.”
