Jason Mraz, the singer and songwriter known for songs like “Geek in the pink” and “I’m Yours,” was another celebrity that got engaged over this past holiday season, but it looks like it could be a while until he joins his bride at the altar.
Like most celebrities these days, Mraz shared the big news via Twitter on December 24th, posting three simple words.
“SHE SAID YES,” he wrote.
The ‘she’ in question is Tristan Prettyman, also a singer and songwriter, who met Mraz in 2006 when she played on his tour.
For her part, Prettyman responded in kind, posting her response on Twitter as well.
“For once I am speechless…I did good! Holy Crap! Man of my dreams! For the rest of my life!” She later added, “Still pinching myself…Holy crap. In other news we are camping and it’s awesome. Christmas at the beach in the van!”
The musical couple, who reportedly had been engaged previously but broke up before they walked down the aisle, reconciled last year.
However, just last week, Mraz shared their decision to hold off on a wedding with the press while at Elton John’s Concert to Benefit the American Foundation for Equal Rights.
“We can’t get married until [gay] marriage is legal and equal. I think giving people the right to marry will be a huge movement in civil rights,” Mraz said. “The wedding would be nice for our family, our friends, our community — our moms especially — and so it puts us in the fight.”
For now though, the engagement was sealed with an extra special engagement ring, design by the singer himself. As a self-professed numbers guy, Mraz designed the diamond ring specifically around the numbers 23 and 11.
Both Mraz and the Prettyman, a former model, share the 23rd as their birthday, although they celebrate in June and May respectively, and Mraz has shared that he makes a silent wish in his head every day and 11:11, which led him to incorporate those numbers.
“The section surrounding the main diamond is laid out with 11 on one side and 11 on the other. This way, it’s always 11:11. The stone on top, that which symbolizes our coming together as one, makes 23. The carat weight? What else: 2.3,” Mraz wrote on his blog.
So despite not rushing to the altar, Mraz also shared that the two have plenty to be happy about.
“We both feel that in our engagement, we have a union that’s really special and can’t be broken,” he said. “It’s a sacred bond.”
