What one expects when watching a show like “Dancing with the Stars,” the British television show that pairs celebrities with professional skaters, is an impressive figure skating routine, or possibly a messy fall. However, viewers who turned in over the weekend got a little more than they were expecting.
Former Spice girl and current judge on the show, Emma Bunton, announced her recent engagement to longtime partner and former boy band member, Jade Jones.
Bunton shared the news via Twitter during a commercial break from the show, prompting host Phillip Schofield, to repeat the announcement on the air.
Almost drowned out by the cheers from the crowd, Bunton confirmed the good news. “I know! I’m a very, very happy lady. It’s amazing! Thanks you so much,” she said over the overwhelming applause.
Bunton shot to fame along with her other band mates, including Victoria Beckham, in 1994 when she joined the all-girl music group, “The Spice Girls.” Due to her young age at the time, she was nicknamed ‘Baby Spice’ by the media, and has achieved solo success on the charts in the following years.
In 2000 she began dating Jade, and the couple had their first son, Beau, in 2008. Bunton is currently expecting her second child with Jade, news she also announced over Twitter in March.
Despite engagement rumors in 2006, the pair has insisted that they have never been in a rush to exchange wedding rings. “I can honestly say that we’re really happy, so we don’t feel the need to formalize it,” Bunton told The Dailymail just last year.
Bunton showed off her massive diamond engagement ring during “Dancing with the Stars” as well as posting a picture on Twitter.
