In what E! Entertainment is already calling ‘unholy union news,’ Jesse James and Kat Von D has confirmed their engagement with PEOPLE today.
Kat Von D is best known for her show LA Ink on TLC, which chronicles her work at her tattoo parlor, High Voltage Tattoo, in Hollywood California. Although after today’s news she will most likely be known for this.
Because her new fiancé, James, could have been known for, at best, his reality show “Monster Garage” and being the helpmate and partner of beloved American actress Sandra Bullock. But instead he is best remembered as the man whose infidelity news was broken just days after she had thanked him in her Academy Award acceptance speech. And then there were also some mysterious and confusing pictures of him in Nazi regalia, sparking even more rumors about his behavior.
Following the March 2010 allegations, James entered into a rehab facility in Arizona, tried to make amends and tried to move on. However the public sympathized with Bullock in a big way, who filed for divorce that following April, making it nearly impossible for him to atone. Anyone watching believed that last year must have been the worst year of his life.
However, in a statement to PEOPLE, James ascertained that in fact the opposite was true.
“2010 was actually the best year of my life because I fell in love with my best friend,” He exclusively told PEOPLE. “An amazing woman who stood behind me when the world turned their backs.”
Although the tattooed pair has been friends for years, Von D confirmed that friendship had become something more through her Twitter account on August 19, 2010.
Twitter has since been a forum for PDA of sorts for the couple, with James reopening his account specifically for romantic purposes.
“They say True love will always shine through,” James tweeted earlier this month. “The only reason I started Twitter again? So I could publicly profess my love for @thekatvond.”
For her part, it seems Von D feels the same, confirming her feelings to PEOPLE. “There is no one else for me. He’s the one,” she said.
The Tattoo artist to the stars was seen wearing what was believed to be an engagement ring on the red carpet of the Art of Elysium charity gala in Los Angeles this week, but today James officially confirmed that he is, less than a year since separating from Bullock, preparing to walk down the aisle with Von D.
“My love for her is beyond description. So honored that she said ‘yes,’” he told People, “Growing old with her is going to be an f—-n’ blast.”
