Although the betting books in the U.K. filled up in favor of fashion designer Bruce Oldfield in late November, news is being leaked that Kate Middleton has finally chosen a designer for her wedding dress, and the odds seem to still be in his favor.
Although many believe that Middleton has been leaning towards commissioning an unknown designer, thereby helping to skyrocket their career, sources in the fashion world have heard Oldfield’s name whispered about recently. Designer Ben de Lisi told reporters last month that Oldfield’s name had been circulating in elite fashion circles.
‘There are lots of rumors, but I’ve heard it is Bruce Oldfield,’ he shared with ‘The Daily Mail.’
Those rumors have only been reinforced after Middleton’s mother and sister spent an hour inside Oldfield’s store in London over this past weekend. Carol and sister Pippa, also rumored to be chief bridesmaid, were seen being embraced by the designer himself before he was seen helping the two ladies shop through different outfits.
St. James Palace, who handle the affairs of both Prince William and Prince Harry, have been tight-lipped regarding the dress, but have confirmed that a decision had been made last week. Those that had been in the running, supposedly, were designer such as Oldfield, Phillipa Lepley, Amanda Wakeley, Dame Vivienne Westwood, Daniella Issa Helayel, and of course a British unknown.
Oldfield was also a favorite designer of the late Princess Diana, William’s mother, which would draw further comparisons between the two women, which inevitably began when the young Prince revealed he had proposed with his mother’s iconic sapphire and diamond engagement ring.
Plans for the April 29th royal wedding have been slowly leaked as they have progressed, but pone person reportedly not happy over the way things have unfolded, is the Queen herself.
According to journalist and royal correspondent Yvonne Yorke, who recently wrote for the ‘Huffington Post,’ the Queen reportedly called her grandson recently to ask him “At what point do you stop being trendy and start being realistic?”
It is rumored that the plans for the big day, which were originally being handled by William and Middleton personally, will be more influenced by his grandmother. Not happy with neither the use of a car instead of carriage nor the 100 person buffet it is said the Queen will be more involved from here on out.
In 2005, according to Yorke, the wedding planning for Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles became so disorganized, that she eventually warned them that either she’s making the wedding arrangements, or there won’t be a wedding at all.
