Jennifer Connelly has a lot going on. Not only is the academy award winning actress costarring in the upcoming movie “The Dilemma” with Vince Vaughn and Wynona Rider, she also recently announced she is expecting her third child, but it turns out she and husband Paul Bettany were also another celebrity couple that exchanged wedding rings on New Year’s Day.
The actors first met on the set of the movie “A Beautiful Mind,” for which Connelly won a Best Supporting Academy Award, in 2001. The pair was instantly friends and it was, Bettany told People magazine in 2002, love at first sight of a sorts.
“I knew from the first moment I saw her we were meant for each other,” he told the publication.
And less than a year later Bettany and Connelly were married in a very private ceremony in Scotland on January 1, 2003. The couple, who has always worked hard to keep their private life private, invited just family to the ceremony, and in an almost unheard of move, they opted to skip the engagement ring and instead exchanged simple gold wedding bands.
Their first child together, Connelly has a son from a previous relationship, was born later that same year, and they have been known to take turns accepting movie roles in order to create a more stable family environment.
After seven years, thriving careers, and baby number three on the way, it seems that there may be some truth in the good luck of a New Year’s Day wedding. Let’s hope that the tradition carries on for celebrities like Shania Twain and Valerie Bertinelli, who both decided to tie the knot this New Year’s.
