Nick Swisher may not be afraid to get dirty on the baseball field, but his wedding to television actress JoAnna Garcia was a clean classy affair this past weekend. The couple was married on Saturday at the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach in front of 375 friends and family.
Garcia, who walked down the aisle in Monique Lhuillier gown , a very popular designer with the stars, tweeted her thanks Sunday.
“Want to thank everyone for all your love & well wishes,” she wrote. “We truly felt all of your sweet thoughts on the most magical day of our lives!”
The couple confirmed that they were dating in People Magazine in August of 2009, and became engaged the following May when Swisher presented Garcia with an Emerald cut diamond engagement ring, with a pave’ set halo and diamonds on the band. Garcia was even spotted celebrating on the field when Swisher’s team, the New York Yankees, won the World Series in 2009.
When the couple announced their engagement, Swisher told People that he couldn’t be happier. “My old man told me a long time ago you need to marry your best friend,” he told the magazine. “And I think that’s exactly what I’m doing.”
And despite working on opposite coasts while he played for the Yankees and she filmed her ABC sitcom, Better With You, the pair was able to pull together an elegant affair. The all-star guest list included fellow teammate Alex Rodriguez and movie star Cameron Diaz, and even the bridal party was star studded, including Lance Bass and bridesmaids Jamie Lynn Sigler and Reba McEntire.
After the ceremony the guests enjoyed a seven tier Sylvia Weinstock designed wedding cake reportedly worth $10,000. Weinstock, who became popular in the 80’s in known for her elaborate designs which feature life-like flowers made from sugar.
“I think for the first time in my life, I have a woman who I could not be more proud of,” Swisher told People in November. “We do such a great job really pushing the other one to do better and I think that’s what you have to have.”
